A star is born. The new Tri Audio 845SE integrated with 20 watts, hot looks and beautiful sound defines what's right about tube audio. At $6k, the Tri will, I'm sure, be appearing as the cornerstone in many a fine system.
At the show, the 845SE was only doing amp duty while the pre-amp was Tri's TRX-I ($3k, pic next page). Tri + Acoustic Zen is a match made in hi-fi heaven.
Acoustic Zen's rooms are always stellar, but this year was the best so far. The Acoustic Zen Crescendos, paired with Tri amplification, outdid previous setups with Halcro equipment. The Tri 845 amp, with all of 20 watts, did a fine job of taming these powerhouse speakers, but I'd love to hear them with even more juice. Luscious, alive, seriously addictive. So good was this setup I just couldn't help but to listen to my entire 9 track demo CD...then came back for seconds with friends.
Veloce is going to be huge. With hybrid tube battery powered pre-amps and amps, Veloce steps up the tech game and the results are lust-worthy. The pre-amp is around $15k and the amps are TBA. Definitely a show highlight, can't wait to hear their gear again.
Vivid and Luxman always put on a good show. The Vivid Giya G2 speakers sounded stellar, with worlds of detail and attack. A new Audioaero La Source did preamp, CD duty all in the analog realm while Brinkmann turntable topped off this much talked about room.
Palmer out of Scotland makes one gorgeous turntable. If you have a chance to look and listen to this beauty, don't pass it up.
